Donating Stock

Donating stocks offers benefits for both you and your favorite charity(ies).

Why Donate Stock to Charity?

When you sell shares of stock that have appreciated in value over time, they are subject to capital gains taxes. If you donate the stock directly to a charity, you pay no capital gains tax.

Here’s the other benefit: You’ll get a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the transfer.

Who Should Donate Stock?

This strategy is not just for the wealthy.  Anyone with stock that has appreciated in value that they’ve held longer than one year should consider stock donations.

The tax benefits, however, depend on your annual income.  The higher your income, the greater the tax benefit.

How to Donate Stock to the Familial Dysautonomia Foundation

We suggest you consult your financial advisor to determine if this donation strategy is right for you.
